Making my own weld table clamps by knocking one end off an eclipse f-clamp, grinding the plating off then welding a pin on that I turned from en8m.
Had quite a time with cracking and porosity to some degree, mild steel filler just cracked and welded rubbish with porosity.
Tried a 316 rod which worked pretty well, still cracked at the end on a couple.
I could get fairly consistent results without cracking by weaving a bit and adding plenty filler.
Never had an issue welding en8 before so presume the f-clamp is made of nasty steel?
What would mitigate the cracking in future if I had a similar situation? 309L rods?
