Hi all, new to the forum here. Firstly I'm looking for help to identify the correct type of filler rod for braze welding (not brazing) of mild steel sheet and tube 16swg to 20swg, size of tube will be 1/4" up to 1"
This is mainly for spaceframe race car chassis' and various other little widgets and brackets.
I'm going to be using an Oxy / Mapp kit rather than Oxy / Acet that I've used in the past as I no longer have the bottles and want to avoid the expense for the small occasional jobs I'll have to do. The kit I picked up from EB has a proper refillable Oxy bottle and I've bought Mapp gas, (however I've discovered that the original reg for on the kit was intended for the "maxi gas" type I think, i.e. the Mapp bottle has a male thread and the one on the set needs a bottle with a smaller female thread, however I think I can get around that using a different reg and adaptor)
Also have a couple of other questions;
1) Is Mapp hot enough for braze welding that size of steel?
2) what would be the correct pressure to use on the oxygen reg, I was thinking of around 2psi?
Any other comments / help would be appreciated
