I thought about FI for this car quite a bit and have most of the bits if I wanted to do it but it just doesn't feel right on the old girl. I rebuilt the SUs and have them set-up so it will be a simple change back to SUs if I ever want to go back. I only did a quite mild upgrade when I built the engine. It's an old Volvo B20 and they're not a nice street engine if you go silly so I've built it aiming for 140 to 150Hp range (estimated based on improvements). The R1 carbs should give a bit better performance than the SUs but it's more for reliability, starting and general driving that I'm wanting improvement.
R1 carbs may well work well, but I would have thought the primary reason for bike carbs was to increase performance? But if its a common alteration to replace SU with 4 bike carbs for road use, then I guess its probably going to help with driving as well.
Thing that would put me right off those carbs though, is the cost of parts..................how much for a set of needles, needle jets, and diaphragms for instance? Sure it will probably run with carbs as is, but to dial in the fuelling on a dyno 100% might cost a good deal of money, unless you can find someone with a car dyno with parts for RI carbs.
