I'm in the process of saving pennies for a plasma cutter. I had my eye on the Oxford cutmaker 350 as it is transformer based and I have been very pleased with my Oxford MIG. I was tempted by a transformer one because of the long life and reliability and space/moving it about isn't a major concern, although I never really understand the portability advantage of an inverter plasma because what happens to the compressor? That's hardly portable. The heating function might also be quite useful for me, although I'm unsure if it would be too localised for preheat use.
Anyway, I saw a CNC plasma table in action the other day and it got me thinking that eventually, it might be a useful thing to have myself. Looking at products like the R-Tech CNC, the inverter plasma supplied has a CNC port in the back of it. However, looking at CNC tables such as the plasmaCAM, which can use a handheld torch in a holder, I'm wondering if the port is always neccesary?
Basically what I'm trying to ask is, if I bought the Oxford cutmaker, in a few years time, could I use it with a CNC table? Or do I need to get an inverter plasma cutter with this special CNC port?
Any advice much appreciated.
