Hi guys.. I know there are afew threads with.. which mig should i get.. but there's nothing like getting a personnel answer :-p
ok.. so this is where I'm at. I'm messing about with cars and would like to do some metal work, maybe weld some exhaust stainless up and even try some ali tube.. so the story so far...
I went to Aldi and picked up one of them cheapo gas/gasless welders. First I tried it on gasless.. this is on 1.5mm mild steel even on the lowest setting no 1 (off 6) and lowest wire feed I found it very easy to blow a couple of holes if I stayed in once place to long.. the penitration was good..lol sometimes too good. lol.
So I then tried the gas, reversed the leads and I found I could now bang the power up to 5 even 6 increase the wirefeed a litte but the results werent the best poor penitration, although the weld was alot cleaner...
BUT (now there always is a but) the supplied gasless wire is 0.9 and it says in the instructions I must use a 0.9 wire feed roller.. sadly there isnt one in the box only a 0.6 / 0.8 / 1.0 .. AND yesterday I went to turn the reg on and instead of turning it on it unscrewed itself and fell to pieces. :-( I have also purchased two co2/argon mini disposable bottles from halfords that didnt last 5 mins as I can hear the torch leaking a little even when the buttons not pressed... .
So.. because of the reg / leaking torch and incorrect wheel feed I think this babys going back for a refund.
SOOO.. I am looking at getting either a clarke 160en and converting it OR a snapon 130..
I already have a new mini reg I bought and will get some more gas.. but which is better and do what I'm after (both second hand and about £200)
thanks
Steve
