Sorted!!!
Someone has replaced the suppression capacitor in the past with a 0.1uf one. A guy helping me calculated that it should be 0.022uf, so I replaced it and it works fine!

Good to hear you got it sorted Andrew. Not clear on your pic but machine looks to have a decent feed motor compared to the later clarke machines which seam to share motors with the SIP range!
The fact it uses a contactor implies a better built machine.
It's so well built Mike. It's only 15 amps more than my 151EN, but much more heavy duty inside. The wire feed motor is 10x the size, the rectifier is bigger and its got a nice bank of smoothing capacitors inside. Plus the transformers are copper wound, rather than aluminium like the 151. Plus it's cost me about £7! Might fit a Euro torch now it works...

Old thread resurection but I felt obliged to give a reply to say thanks - My old Clarke 185e started to intermittently run the gas solenoid and activate the power contactor of its own accord - I took the board out and followed the circuit, I could not find an online wiring diagram, and found the two switching transistors for the wire feed and gas/power relays. There were no obvious signs of issues on the board so figured I would change them - And that is where the difficulties in finding an equiv of the existing transformers started. After hours looking through Transformer specifications a search for the 92PU45A a good few pages back in a google search brought up this link and the ZTX605 - which had the closest base voltage and clearly had worked before . A couple of days to wait for ebay seller to delivery and we were up and running again
Although its a huge welder and takes up far too much space for its output it has served me well with what I use it for.
