Hi guys,
New to the forum and pretty new to welding.
I bought a Clarke 151TE turbo last year and since running out of the wire that came with the welder and swapping it for 0.8mm on a 5kg spool I've been having wire feed issues. I initially thought the spool was maybe too heavy so I swapped it out for a 1kg spool I had, still 0.8mm and the problem persists.
Basically it seems like as soon as the feed roller encounters the slightest bit of resistance the roller stalls and the motor just spins making a horrible screeching noise.
It seems to do it most on initial start up. Press the trigger and I just get a screech from the motor, no feed. If I give the wire a pull it will start to feed and feed well. I can leave it to feed as much through as I want, but try to stop and start and I get nothing, just a screech.
I'm worried I have damaged something between the motor and the feed roller. Does anyone know about the internal workings of this? I would have thought it would be a direct drive but obviously not if it is able to slip?
I plan on swapping back to a 0.6mm wire on a 1kg spool as it gave me no issues with that, but I need the welder to complete a welding job on my exhaust first....
