Hi all, been reading lots of good stuff on the forum and its brilliant.. this is my first post and I'm sure will be first of many asking for advice ! Apologies if in the wrong forum, i have also posted this in the Clarke specific forum as it applies to both !!
I bought a 2nd hand 145 turbo last week it is only 3 months old. It has the optional accessory gas kit fitted.
I have been practising today and really struggling to get anything decent that i can call a weld. It has the industrial torch fitted not the hobby torch, i am not sure what wire it has as the label has been removed but i think its 0.6….however the tip has a number 10 on it. I'm assuming its a 1.0mm tip to run 0.8mm wire as sold in the weldequip shop.
The first problem i had was a leaking gas fitting so was not getting any gas at the shroud…thats now fixed which i hoped would mean a huge improvement in weld. The welds I'm getting are all spluttery i have been up and down all the power settings and speeds..ive noticed the industrial front end set up has the tip very nearly proud of the shroud though does this defeat the point of having a shroud ??? Would this be what would be fitted if using gasless wire ?? My thinking is that i am trying to use gas wire with gas but it has the wrong tip and shroud at the moment for gas ??
I want the welder to be set up to weld my rusty vw transporter, so I'm thinking of 0.6mm gas wire and replacing the shroud and tip for the hobby torch set up rather than the industrial torch ???
Help please !!!
