I am building a motorcycle and was going to do it with oxy-acetylene but thought it might be handy to have a mig. I found a guy with a new clark 180 EN with a regulator for $350US. Mininum output is 30 amp, is this normal or will it limit me? Any advise?
30 amps would mean that you could weld down to about 30 thousandths or 1/32 metal thickness.
The 180a maximum for a single pass would be about .18 inches or 3/16.
If you are building your own bike frame, practice on similar material until you are 100% sure of your welds.
Also keep in mind the HAZ will be a factor.
