I bought a cheapo CUT50 from ebay in April, more as a toy than anything as I have very little use for one, most of my cutting is SHS and RHS, but decided it'd be handy for cutting sheet when restoring tractor cab panels.
I used it when i got it first and it was spot on, cut out some replacement panels for a david brown cab door.
Went to use it last week to slice some 8mm plate to use as small gussets, and it was a no go.
Firstly, i could initiate an arc, but had no airflow. I diagnosed the issue as the solenoid that controls the airflow, so disconnected that. This meant i had air flowing as soon as i plugged in the air line.
However even after this it wouldnt penetrate the plate. No combination of air pressure or amps seemed to work. I know its not a high quality machine, but i thought it'd surely manage 8mil?
Im just wondering if the air flowing before the arc initiating is an issue? In my mind when it was working it would blow air before the arc started , but i cant remember 100%.
If this isnt the issue, any idea where to start looking for possible problems? The arc was stable-ish, but it was more like gouging out chips than cutting.
Any help appreciated!
PS, ebay seller isnt replying to messages, dispute has been opened with PayPal, but just looking to see if its a simple fix!
