Old Horse shoe before being dunked into vinager in another Electrolytic tank.
To be honest, the tank is the plastic bucket it is at on. I make the tank from what ever plastic container I can get the part to fit in.
After 6 hours at 1.5A at 14v.
I dried it off after a quick wash down with a hose pipe.
Not bad.
Not something to do in a close space as the smell from the vinegar gets right up everyone's nose.
But this tank had an extra modification I had it sat on Milk pump at the farm. It has a history of high frequency vibrations. It cracks the mounts. But that an other story.
Hmm. Not really sure that electrolysis and simultaneous acid etching is really necessary. They are two different processes for rust treatment. One of the problems with electrolysis is the generation of "friendly" black rust or magnetite which can be tricky to scrub off. I think a good vinegar soak afterwards will take care of that.
Secondly, vinegar will etch metal surfaces so you want to keep an eye on the process whereas electrolysis is effectively plating the surface and restoring it and can be left for days and days.
