I recently bought a brand new Korloy parting blade and block because I just didn't trust the Chinese push fit blades. ~£140 for one tool and a couple inserts, no insert ejection tool for that price either!
It works spectacularly but the block doesnt seem any better made than the ultra cheap chinese hss blade holder I have. I would like to compare the blade to a cheap one.
That's good to know, I've just got my coolant pump sorted. I've got cutting oil though, not that water soluble milky looking stuff I've seen Hood use, no idea how they compare?Cheap inserts last far longer if cooled
Aww, no longer on offer, now £130 plus VAT, will have to wait until next monthShould check out J& L (MSC Direct now I think) They have been punting the Iscar Tang Grip blade and 10 inserts (with tool) for £99 plus VAT. Simply the best parting tool I have ever used. In fact I bought 3 sets and might go and buy another now I have just remembered about them
Neat cutting oil works well but makes a mess and can be hazardous as it can ignite, friend had a beautiful Bullard CNC lathe go up in flames when they forgot to change out a parting insert as normal and the insert broke, steel blade rubbed on the part and next thing they knew was the place was filled with smoke. That's good to know, I've just got my coolant pump sorted. See post number 28, no longer on offer, likely will be next month thoughToo late now! I'm very happy with the saw man but that is a good deal, I wouldn't get through 10 inserts in my life time.
Got a link? Couldn't see it on the website either, ill have a proper look later, probably end up buying one
How long does it last that you'd want to buy enough to make 400 litres at a time?Neat cutting oil works well but makes a mess and can be hazardous as it can ignite, friend had a beautiful Bullard CNC lathe go up in flames when they forgot to change out a parting insert as normal and the insert broke, steel blade rubbed on the part and next thing they knew was the place was filled with smoke.
Not likely so much of an issue on a manual machine though.
I have been buying this soluble oil, decent enough price and works well at 1 L per 20L water.

Depends how many machines you have, how many parts you make etc etc. Lasts me a good while, maybe a year but production places usually buy it in the big bunded tanks (240 L ? ) as they go through a fair bit as you lose a small amount on every part. How long does it last that you'd want to buy enough to make 400 litres at a time?
Usually find buying it that way will cost almost as much.buy a 5ltr can
casnt remember what I payed was rocol from Cromwell tools
I'm not expecting them to be amazing, I really just need to cut this and probably a few more spacers for the same spindle. I might even return them when I'm done.
