I'm trying to make a spacer for the horizontal arbour of my milling machine, specifically the spacer that the overarm support fits onto so it needs a really good finish as it'll be running against a bronze insert.
On the left is the lovely finish I got from a carbide tool, the other two surfaces are (Freshly ground/sharpened) HSS at a couple of different speeds.
(The carbide wasn't chipped when it did that).
How can I improve the finish I get with HSS?
It's EN24 I'm trying to cut btw.
