I converted my battens to led...the LEDs I bought came with a blank ballast but in the end I just rewired the fitting to bypass the ballast all together.
I think Wickes sells the 240v tubes that can be used...just make sure you remove the fluorescent ballast and replace or bypass it!
Well i just popped and and got them anyway. 8 for £40 can't grumble at that.
On one light i have fitted alread I just fitted an led batten and it is fi e. I must of been lucky there with that one.
I asked about these as I recently found out thay some csnt be converted.
I think whatever you do you need to unplug the existing ballast/starter and fit the blank that is supplied with the new LEDs....you can then try and if they work then great. I had to rewire mine but it's pretty basic stuff. Hi
Florescent tubes work very differently...the tube is initiated by a voltage spike (I don't recall exactly but it's high...like 500v+!)...could damage the LEDs so I wouldn't risk it!
It depends on the ballast fitted. If it's the older type with a starter you can usually just install the lamp directly into the fitting and then replace the starter with the fused one that comes with the LED tube.
If it's the newer type ballasts without a starter you usually need to bypass them and put a feed direct to the LED tube.
