Hi
I'm new so please take it easy
Years ago I used to be an engineer and did some (not a lot) of MIG & MMA welding. Since then I've been away from welders but have always fancied a go at TIG welding.
I have the following requirements:
Welding mainly steels/stainless steels (ali would be nice but I reckon that would be well out of my price range).
Thickness up to about 5-6mm.
General welding for small DIY engineering projects (I have a little machine-shop at home, you know, lathe, miller etc).
Anyway I have very little idea whats good and whats not, I don't have a massive budget but if the right bit of kit came up i might go to £600-£700ish but would probably prefer to spend less if it wasn't going to make massive difference to my welding.
Basically I'm after some advice as to what would be the best for the money and where I should get it from, and before you ask, I simply fancy a TIG welder although my needs would probably be well satisfied by a MIG. I just like the idea of those lovely clean welds that a skilled TIG user can make.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
