I'm about to pull the water jacket out of my Rabyurn no 40 (the rare 4 oven early 50s model) and try and repair it if it's not too far gone. We've just moved into a house with it and I turned the tank on above it and flooded the kitchen. Previous tenant had run it dry, and it leaks out the bottom of the jacket which is cracked.
According to an online description, I can just pull the jacket out from the top. So I'm planning on brazing it - I think I'll have more chance of success over arc welding with cast rods? Does anyone have any tips? I've got OA. I know I need to try and get it all to full temperature, but that's pretty hard seeing as it's a big lump of cast iron and all I have is a torch. I can try and get it all hot but It's going to be a struggle. Can I get away with getting it all fairly hot then only heating the surrounding area to brazing temp? Any type of rods better than others for cast iorn?
