I have only very limited welding experience and I am coming back to use my MIG system after a few years break, what I am trying to work out now is whether my Gas bottle is even turned on properly (dont laugh you are probably thinking I shouldnt even be touching the equipment if i cant work that out) and if it is whether it has any gas in or not. But I am slightly paranoid about doing something wrong with the bottle
I have a feeling that years back when i first got the welder and bottle that after a welding job I may have left the regulator in the on position and the bottle tap open and the bottle is now possibly empty due to leakage.
I now want to start welding again, the welder unit is working and nothing has been disconnected since it was setup from new, but I cant remember how much force was required to correctly turn on the Gas! The open close tap (no.2 in my photo) seems to be very tight and I am wondering how much force to apply to open it and also when I do eventually get it to turn, how much it should be turning in either direction to open or close the valve ?
