should have posted knife forged by a smithyBlacksmiths knife? What the hells one of them? Does it cut through metal? Excuse my ever increasing ignorance?
It's actually the term used to describe the style of knife that's fully forged including the handle.Blacksmiths knife? What the hells one of them? Does it cut through metal? Excuse my ever increasing ignorance?
I harden in oil bath, I temper to colour. Don't really believe in some ways you see on the net. Just do it how I was shown by my mentor a blacksmith of the old school into his eighties when I trained with him a while during my apprentice years. You just want the straw colour along the cutting edge or as close as can be achieved (I say close as you can because the blue zips though pre- quench on some designs ) it's not like it's a punch or turns crew. That looks a nice simple elegant design. How do you temper the spring after forging ? It's something I'm going to try soon.
Yes, a lot say forged when they really mean cut from flat stock. Straightening coil isn't very easy, took almost same time as the knife. Approx 1/2" roundThat is incredible - odd but incredible!!!
I looked at the top and thought it was a walking stick handle - the ram's horn type - until I scrolled down! The twist at the top is very well done. They do say spring steel is the best there is for this kind of thing. I was thinking leaf though not coil.
Yes quite, of course done by thier blacksmiths . Americans are calling it a spike knife because they make such things from railroad spikes.Id call that a Viking style, more nice work
