hi,
first post and another of those "which" questions.
Have done quite a bit of mig welding over the years but wouldn't call myself a welder, mainly car body stuff with a borrowed Clarke 185.
I'm just about to take the plunge and buy my own welder so would like some advice if possible.
Looking for a machine that will last a while and be able to cope with car bodywork, from fabricating sheet steel repair sections up to welding spring hanger/chassis repair sections. In other words anything on an old car, or repairing a vehicle with a separate chassis.
I like the look of the Portamig 185 but it's above my budget. Have also looked at the Clarke 160 types, which seem to be respected.
Looking at refillable gas rather than gasless.
What would be the cheapest good quality machine that would fulfil my criteria, or should I save up for the portamig!
