Just looking for advice, I have googled and searched it but couldn't find a decisive answer.
I need to connect two lengths of steel retangular section (80x40x3mm) end to end (butt joint) and was wondering the best way to do it. I could bevel the edges, lay a root, filler and then cap but I'm not sure if this on its own will be strong enough, especially as my welding isn't always the greatest (I'm also stick welding).
So I was wondering whether making braces in some way, laying supports on the sides, maybe some angle on the corners for strength, maybe bolt some of the braces in? What would be the best way to do it do you think, my welding isn't amazing, I can get stuff to stick together but it's not quite the most precise hence why I didn't really want to do a bevelled butt weld without extra bracing!
Hope someone may be able to offer some advice,
all the best
