Hi All,
New to the forum and new to welding, something I've been looking forward to learning for a while now. I recently purchased a 1988 Renault 5 GT Turbo and I am tackling bodywork and rust first. I'm ordering sills and will need to weld them in, as well as sheet work on the floor, arches and bumper mounts. I have looked at welder hire and it seems expensive, and puts time pressure on the job. I'd like a welder that can handle what seems like relatively thin bodywork. It will get a lot of use on this project but then fairly infrequently after that until I find another job for it. I think no-gas seems inappropriate and I'd like something that can be hooked up to a larger type cylinder.
I'm happy to go second hand or new. Ideally, if I go second-hand I'd be after a complete setup with mask, cylinder, and a machine with good reviews that I can see working. Don't mind going new, but being down in Falmouth I worry about postage costs and support.
At this stage cost is a priority. Has anyone seen a deal somewhere online that strikes them as really very good?
Another option is to borrow/hire a welder of someone local who would be willing to help me out (I wouldn't expect this to be free) so If anyone local is interested in seeing a Renault up and running again do let me know!
Any help much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Rich
