To the side of the house we have this raised flower bed.
I am going to try and make a low fence to sit on top of the brickwork, maximum height around say 450mm to top of posts and the panels approx 300mm tall with gap at the bottom.
The length of the fence would be 6 metres along the front, and 3 metres back to the gate on the left. The bit of wall one can see on the right is curved, not that I think it matters for this.
So I need to check a few basics with the group.
Thinking four posts, one at gate, one at corner one at the curved wall and one in the middle. It would mean 3 metre panels, have in mind 40 x 40 x 4mm HRS for the posts and 30 x 8mm flat for top and bottom rails with 16mm bar 100mm centres for the verticals. Possibly two inverted T's on the bottom of the panels on the bottom to add support as I think the 3 metre lengths may sag.
Not planning for any rail heads just keeping the top of the panel flat.
I may add the odd decorative upright such as twisted bar or onion/basket/what ever they are called.
the idea is the roses fill up most of the rail when in bloom.
What I am unsure off is how to do the top and bottom rails. I could just butt weld the round bar to the flat, or drill and countersink the top and bottom flats to take the round bar then fill weld and grind flat again after.
It would take a lot of time to prep but think look better afterwards with a clean appearance. But the butt welding of the round to flat, no holes would be a lot faster.
I would appreciate ideas from more knowledgeable members.
