With regards to the fall speed of a 7 x 12 bandsaw arm, is there a rule of thumb for how many cm per second the arm should fall at when cutting mild steel? I'm talking about the adjustable hydraulic fall speed, not talking about the belt speed or tension.
I noticed the other day that some local fabricators had their bandsaw set to descend quite quickly whereas I always use my at the slowest fall speed on the assumption that it puts less stress on the blade, allowing the teeth to cut smoothely rather than the hydraulics forcing it through the cut. I also imagine that a slower speed means less chance of vertical cut drift.
