Ive got the "OXY ACETYLENE WELDING REPAIR MANUAL" published by BOC in 1938....mine is the 8th edition Feb 1948.....it calls it tubing and mentions the need to protect it....thats all
However, I was told that the rubber tubing used back then was very easy to damage...sparks could penetrate it......so it was wrapped in cloth pipe lagging to keep the two pipes together and protect them....I think the bagging name came from this....... but I dont know if this is correct or not......Im not THAT old..
