Hey guys, i'm a n00b, never welded anything in my life but am always looking for more tools!
i've got 2 items that need welding and i don't like paying garages, i'd rather do it myself so found this forum a few weeks back...
i've come to the conclusion that i don't quite have the space for a mig welder of my own at the moment but was wondering if i could pay someone nearby to use their welder (at their garage etc) and pay for the use of the machine / time / materials / misc and have a go myself
and when i bugger it up, they could take over and fix it for me!
i'm looking to modify a gearbox cross member (need to move one of the bolt holes so will be welding 4 or 6mm plate to the original item, probably a 5cm wide strip that will be about 10cm long so needs 4 welds (2 strips, one for each side) about 5cm long each
sorry, i know my description's terrible, but in my head it should be an easy first step into welding
the other thing i've got is a stainless manifold with a small crack (approx 1mm by 10-15mm) near the collector, easy enough to get to but i know that stainless will be a bad place to start welding so maybe you could help with that
so that's that, i guess i'm asking if anyone's got some stainless and a powerful mig nearby and doesn't mind me asking a few stupid questions / fixing my mistakes for a small fee
(and if that doesn't work out, how much should a garage be charging me for the above jobs?)
thanks guys
Ian
