Thanks for all the replies. I think I really should have been more careful with my description of what I wanted. I said waterproof and really that is not what I am after but rather I am looking for something that is not water absorbent.
What I mean is materials such as the soft leather or denim that is usually found in the after market Tig covers will soak water up and would be a poor choice. Material such as nylon would be fine in this respect but probably not good for risk of melting.
Problems with zip getting spatter on it is something I had not really considered but it is definitely a good point. All of my Mig welding is Aluminium which is spray transfer so very little spatter but there will always be occasions where there is some. Most of the time however the lead will be a long way away from where I am welding as I will have the push/pull gun running from the feeder but there will be occasions such as when in my workshop where it would be coiled up closer and also there will be chances of spatter from stick welding. So looks to me like a zip may be a bad idea now
I had seen the hyd hose covers but I just do not think velcro will stand up to the use I put things through, lots of sharp edges on boats for it snagging on and being pulled open and I think I would soon get tired of having to reattach parts of the cover.
Looking like the two options for me are either the original type sleeving as found on push/pull guns or lay flat fire hose. I may have some fire hose so if it is suitable that will be the best option as it will be free
