Spent today servicing the Alfa, it has a fill Service history and had a lot of work done at the main dealer last October - brakes, timing belt, water pump etc. But due fluids and filters. I did some research and saw the gearboxes can be weak and best to upgrade fluids so thought I would do that too. The car has only done 22k miles.
fist job is to remove the considerable undertray, then easy to drain oils etc.
Found the bottom 2/3 of the air filter soaked in water , think the air filter drain was blocked!
Not a fault I have had before.
I hate these paper oil filters, what was wrong with metal spin on - makes a mess when you take them off...
Front subframes are known to corrode severely, did not look too bad:
wire brush then Noxudol 700 inside and Noxudol 300 outside before refitting undertray:
Only other issue was handbook said engine takes 4.6 litres of oil, oil low on dip stick and drained more than 5 litres, a google soon revealed that I did need over 5 litres.
So overall ok for an Italian car - anyone else seen an air filter do this before?
