Hello All,
Just found this website, so heres my 1st post - a request !
I have been at Night College 1x per week for 12 weeks learning the very basics of TIG welding, as I waated to learn to weld Ali.....seemed easy enough
I got on the course as I was able to show acceptable MIG and ARC welds, as I have done this in my Hobby for 20+ Years.....
I did however have absolutely no idea as to how to TIG, but thought "I'd prob pick it up okish - 1st F BIG mistake
Jeeeeez that AC TIG is difficult !.
I had a few weeks on Gas welding, then was moved to DC TIG and only in the last few weeks I have been on Ali, there is no doubt that :
1. You just cannot learn this without expert tuition
2. I am not going to be an expert after 12 weeks
3. Pratice and more pratice
4. Its a real skill, and I have only the absolute basic ability so far.
So..................
The plan now is to buy myself a single phase AC DC Plant. ....and pratice me pants off
I would be interested in the thoughts of those who know, I do not want to make a expensive mistake.
So Far I have the following thoughts :
1. Nothing Cheap-as-china junk
2. Must be single phase and inverter
3. It needs to last .........so warranty and parts availablity a must
4. I must have a foot control
5. Thinking water cooled torch / Unit too ?
6. I would rather pay more and have reliability.....
7. It will be used 90/10 (ali / steel)
As to makes and models :
R-Tech ? - any views - hear a lot about them but have seem little feedback ?
Weco ? - same
Miller (qulaity at a price - is it worth soooo much more ?)
CEA ?
EWM ?
or any others ?
Would be gratefull for thoughts as to what to buy.....
Make brand model etc etc ???
HELP !
Nige
