I bought a 2nd hand wood lathe that came with a 3-jaw chuck. I wasn't expecting much from it:
I first cleaned the chuck in my ultrasonic cleaner, took it apart, greased up the spiral and generally put machine oil on everything. I made sure to put the three jaws in correctly, not hard because the jaws were numbered, the jaws all line up properly when I put them in.
Yet when I put a straight shaft in this thing to check, the shaft wobbles so badly that if this is any indication, the jaws are not even remotely suitable for woodworking purposes.
I am not sure what to do, am I doing something wrong in using it? Is there a special technique? Never had a lathe with a chuck before.
