So my trusty SCAG walk behind lawnmower is in desperate need of a refurb. I decided this because the blades needed sharpening and I made the mistake of looking closely at everything else.
In my defense, it does need a new bearing in one of the spindles...which are rebuildable, luckily.
I took some time getting everything apart as the rust and corrosion had begun to take over. Also, the abuse the hardware takes is unique....many of the bolt heads under the deck were nearly worn away from the abrasive action of all those years of cutting grass and leaves and dust, ect......
The rust was spreading and the paint was failing, so the deck will have to be completely repainted. There are several cracks here and there, so some welding will have to be done too.....
In the middle of it, the grinder started getting a little warm...It may have a little problem.
ummm, yep, a problem...
It will be a rewarding project, as I use the mower quite a bit. its a great machine. with a 52" cut, I can get the lawn done (but not the weed trimming) in under 1 hour.
Heres some of the pulleys all repainted. The spindles in the background show the wear and tear to the housings as they reside under the deck. luckily, only one set of bearings is making noise....the other two are smooth.
thanks for lookin
