I've just about got the new shed workshop finished at long last and have once again turned my attention to finding a Mig welder. I've spent hours and hours reading this forum and other websites trying to come to a decision on what to get. Considering what I will be using it for I have narrowed it down to either a Portamig 235 or Tecarc 231. I've all but given up on a quality used machine cropping up for a sensible price locally after a few months of watching eBay etc.
Compare the similar packages side by side and it appears that the lower minimum current of 5amps on the Portamig appears to cost around about an extra £70 - or are there other important differences that I'm missing? On a £600/£700 machine that's not too important TBH.
Given the reputation Weldequip has for service - and for honest advice here on the forum I'm definitely leaning towards the Portamig at the moment but it got me thinking about just how noticeable would that extra 5amps have on the lower end?
