"It is an offence under the Road vehicles (construction and use) regulations (Regulation 61a(3)) to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet."
The boffins that be are just killing off good reliable engines for the sake of making rules.
This is most diesels that were made without a DPF.
Yes they pass euro 3 and 4 when built. Now they are 10-15 years old and the all important egr valve has coked up every inch of the inlet, and I've seen them a 1/3rd of the diameter they're supposed to be, they all struggle with emissions at mot time....

I had no idea that they got THAT bad.I done mine myself. Took 3 days. Could have been Done quicker but I was being lazy and just letting it soak in strong degreaser for 24hrs then scrubbing then soak again etc.
Also did the best I could on the cylinder head ( didnt remove from engine) and that took a good 8 hours alone, with Henry Hoover and a variety of nylon brushes, bottle brushes etc.
On reassembling the effect was immediately noticeable. Smoother idle, more power, more responsive. Exhaust recieved a similar treatment and I'm now making 1.2 bar of boost as opposed to a standard 0.8.
Just patiently waiting for a package of hi-flow injectors to arrive to take advantage of the extra air now available to the engine.
Here' some examples robbed off google. Mine wasnt very different to any of these pictures and had done 120,000 miles.
There are companies that offer to clean it out for you. Terraclean is one. No idea on effectiveness or possible side effects etc.
Generally i can't see it being a good idea to mix diesel soot, oil and whatever they spray down your inlet and let the engine burn it, however an oil change afterwards and ive never heard of people have problems with it

Ditto that. I've never seen a car engine like that. In fact the only engine I've seen that bad is a badly coked two-smoke exhaust.I had no idea that they got THAT bad.
