Thumbs up Support the forum

It's now possible to support your favourite forum (this one) by donating £10 or equivalent in your local currency via the donation page.
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/payments.php

It's a bit of a cheeky request - while work is slack this year (automotive industry) I want to take the opportunity to spend more time improving the forum and tutorials rather than scratching around all the time for other bits of work. So any donations will benefit the forum rather than be squandered on things like hosting. 3 donations would fund a starving webmaster for a day.

To say thanks to anyone who does donate you'll be able to take advantage of a few small alterations for a whole year:
  • On the forum a bigger avatar (increased to 120px by 100px).
  • More private message storage (increased to 500).
  • The ability to customise your member profile page (see mine or Woz's).
  • No ads anywhere on the site (so long as you log in using "remember me". Otherwise no ads on the forum).
  • New members (less than 2 weeks and 5 posts) could bypass some of new member restrictions.
I'm not thinking of changing anything else so there is no need to donate if you don't want to.

But thanks to everyone who has (or does) donate - it's much appreciated and will help speed up improvements to the forum.

its not cheeky malcolm. lots of forums want a membership fee to become a "club member" with full website usage. otherwise your just a "forum member" with restricted access.

if your spending a big part of your time on here then you need to get paid, its a part time job.

what area of the auto motive industry do you work in.

I was working in acoustics (noise and vibration reduction), but as a contractor to a consultancy firm. Interesting high end technology stuff and I've worked with most of the manufacturers at one time or another, but contractors to consultancies aren't best protected against recessions.

Not really going to starve to death - was really busy until the start of last summer so have savings, and I have some work on the web, though nowhere near full time, hence figuring out how to make a living this year preferably while actually spending some time doing something that benefits people.

If all 5478 registered members paid a tenner each that would quickly become a very tidy sum indeed...Hmmm. Can you set one up for me Malc; "Thank's for your help weldequip & saving me at least a tenner on my purchase, I would now like to donate that tenner back to you" type of fund?

Considering the amount of time, you can spending looking on the internet or the number of books you could buy and still not find the answer. Posting a question here always gets an answer. well worth donating a £10, but mine will have to be cheque as no paypal account. So hopefully malcolm has postal details.
