Default security doors

Hi there it was out with the arc welder this weekend to make some security doors for a game food unit.
The unit is an old MOD spot so nice strong bars on the windows then pants door so some little twoker went in through the door TWICE in one week. An accomplishment Sean's as how the whole site is supposed t have CCTV and patrols at night. There must have been something interesting on TV on the night in question. So the gates 25x25x3 box section with 12mm bars and three pieces of 75x6 flat across the gates to strengthen and to take the hinges and bolts. Back to my mates barn to weld them up. (After moving piles of stuff that's been there since Noah was a lad). First task was to make somewhere level to weld. This was done with two workmates with planks of wood in them leveled up with a spirit level. (See pics). Got the frames made up and some bars in one of them. Will post more pics as they progress.

P.S. What a difference proper rods make ditched the MM ones and got some Murex 2.5 Zodians.

Got the rest of the frames welded up and the bars in place. There is a little distortion in the middle of the bars but happy with the results. Will be installing them later and painting when I get chance they have a coat or zinc primer on at the moment. I will post some pics after they are up if there is still light!

Unless they are nicked by a pikey first

I put a robot in to weld prison bars, they are square section with a slot in each corner, filled with tungsten and capped with weld (by the robot) they demonstrated trying to cut it with an angle grinder - just reduced the wheel to dust!

got three of the four gates fixed in place. Need to bolt and weld one plate to a hinge as the brick work is non to clever. I have used 10x140mm frame fixings so shouldnt move to much. The bow on the large gate is a bit more than I would have liked but livable. Also the two gates have a bit of a large gap in the middle but the hasp and staple bridge the gap.

Nice gates, but I think your weakness now is the exposed hasp and staples...

You need to box them in with some heavy plate to stop people getting a pair of bolt crops on either the hasp loop or the lock loop itself. You can actually buy commercial lock boxes now, but if you use heavy (5mm) plate and box around it, they take some peeling off anyway...
The hasps you have also look really lightweight, I reckon a good twist off a big nailbar would see them bent enough to open the gate, maybe some heavier duty ones?

there the heavy's one i could find. The entrances are in sight of the road and it is a secure estate so the gates are really just to stop the opportunistic theft. but boxing them in sounds like a good plan.

They haven't left the keys on that bit of string going through the letter box, have they?

Nice job, but as Mr Fluffy said the door/gate furniture you can buy never seems to be heavy duty enough. I always tend to make my own and box stuff in so bolt croppers can't get at the locks.

the lock at the moment consists of two half welding rods! That's the power cable for the welder little buzz boxes have there uses! I will have a rethink and bolt a piece of flat bar to the side of the gate and use a big hasp and staple with a box round it. Probably cut off the top bolt and put that in its place.

Got the last gate in tonight. The bright ones will notice its on the wrong side of the door . The reason for this is the tin that the building is clad in extends a good few inches of the existing brick wall so there wasn't and fixings. This door is in clear sight of the CCTV and is well lit so an unlikly target however if they do force the door they then have the gate.
