Well I've practised loads since my introduction and finally got round to my vespa. Removed the floor, sandblasted courtesy of advice on here then primed. Added a new floor plus a little bit up the legshields. Got to learn how to paint now

Also added some early beetle 'snowflake' lights to the back of my Lambretta (sorry VW people :hug:

). They needed careful chopping before welding together. Bit of fabricating add a tall weld to try to bridge the gap between the 0.7mm lights and the 2.5mm lammy frame. Then what felt like 1000 spot welds. Ground down then lead loaded. This projects on hold till I can afford the paint job, lol.

This may seem like a daft question, but how are you going to illuminate your rear numberplate? its a statutory requirement I think to show white light onto it.
Normal rear lights have a white panel underneath to accomplish this, or a dedicated lamp...
Hate for you to finish all the leading and find out you missed something for a mot or something

I've just finished blasting one of those Vespas. What a mess! It was solid filler on the upper surfaces and the underneath & footrests were painted over underseal. It took me a week on and off.

I think its great, not one for the purist - but tastfully done.

How did you find the project? easy? Hard? what bits were worst?

I've got a scooter friendly MOT'er

If even they get pissy you can get LED numberplate bolts expressly made for this purpose. I'll take em straight back off again (like the 6"x6" numberplate I've had made for the Vespa!).

Dangle - These are my first projects really. The joy for me is in the DIY. Now I appreciate welders and panel beaters a lot more, lol.
What I've found with most things I attempt is you get the knack of it just when you've finished. But the trickier it is the better you feel when you crack a beer at the end of the day and look at what you accomplished (or broken :laughing:

).

rear lights are fantastig will really stand out with those, you seem to be doin a puker job shame yer in london it would be nice to see in the flesh over a beer

Bakers of Gillingham I think it reads. I bought the car second hand but thought it was an omen 'cause my surname's Baker!

Unless you're a Land Rover fan, can identify model from a bit of back window seen behind a building obscured by a hedge while passing at 30mph!!

Ah milkcrates, they are always useful. I currently have a gilera runner frame (with panels on) rested carefully ontop of a milk crate in one of my sheds :laughing:

Brilliant little Vespa project you got there. Be sure to keep us informed. Funnily enough an old mate said just last week he was looking to do something similar. Old Lammys and Vesps are going for silly money prices these days, even the once ubiquitous P200e !

Yep scooters are back. I'm a bit of an anomaly being in my twenties cause most scooterists are 40+ with disposable income reliving their youth - the glory days of 79-86. I'm not saying that in a disparaging way at all but the original ethos of cheap travel for the masses is long gone...
Same as the hotrod scene 25 years ago, derived from cheap 1930's cars that were languishing post WWII now there aren't any left. You can actually buy every lambretta part remade. They just don't fit :mad:

Still, I love it when someone finds a lammy in a shed or a car in a barn and then they come on a forum and say "I found this XXXXX what should I do with it..." There's alway 50 private messages of "I'll give you 100 quid for it" :laughing:

Striped the engine tonight, hopefully the bank holiday will allow me to replace all the bearings and seals before I forget how it goes back together.

BTW, i think the vespa's gonna be gloss grey, gold wheels, red shocks, tan seat, totally debadged except for a mooneyes decal on the front of the legshields. A nod to the hotrodders

One place I visited has Lambrettas for sale "as seen" for arounf £1400 and they look real basket cases. Restored they are asking arounf £4000.

Great project Inchpincher, how did you get on with the sandblasting in the end? Seems to have done the job.

Also would be interested to find out where you bought the leadloading gear from. I know frost sell the stuff but they're not cheap!
