I borrowed my old workshop back to weld the body panels back onto an Aston Martin V8. The body is wrapped around the chassis and to get it off you need to cut at the pillars. This one was also cut to allow access to the sills and then cut again for wing repair panels.
Latest technology in use. My favourite knife helping to line up the D pillar join.
The door gaps are a bit tight on this side so I'm trying to persuade a bit more out of the front panel. The door was moved as far forward as it would go and then wooden spacers hammered in to push the front wing forwards. The door gap at the door is even but the upper panel has been bent inwards and needs to be knocked out a little.
Jacking the wheelarch helped ease a little space out of the front wing and helped line the bodywork up on this side. The panel is just tacked in place at the moment - bottom panel needs to go on.
The bottom panel was a real pain. There must have been some contamination. With aluminium welding the metal is really fluid and tends to be sucked towards the tungsten filling the key hole. That panel just wanted to make holes.
It's not finished yet. There's a bit of panel bothering needed before any more welding. I've got the workshop for tomorrow so should get it done then.
We did the other side last weekend but I forgot to take the camera. Will be alright with a bit of filler.
I quite enjoyed the work. I had been planning to sell the Syncrowave but I'm thinking about holding on to it now. Especially now I have rent free Argon.
