I read all the tutorials on MiG welding, and found them very useful.
However I'm not looking into buying a stick welder. From everything I've heard it a XXamp stick will penetrate deeper than the same XXamp MiG, when the right rod is used.
However, if you are welding flat steel(eg regular practise), should the penetration through the metal look the same? Ie the smooth "globule" of metal on the opposite side of your weld, of roughly equal hight to your laid bead?
And while I'm here, I found a bunch of 7024 rod at my farm(older than I am, and it's dry as a bone!). But according to a book I've got the XX24 is to be used for fillet welds?
Can I use it for regular stuff to?
