New to welding, only been using an old "buzz box" so bird-poo expert, but need to learn/own a competent set-up for two reasons. Owner of a steel boat whose hull has just been repaired by a marine welder but still leaving loads of jobs to do internally and self employed boat refurbishment unit in timber, leather and canvas where the ability to do the occasional job in stainless and possibly aluminium would be VERY handy.
However, little more than "hobby" budget to start this off . . . if such generates business then will look at commercial machines providing I have, by then, learned enough.
Been perusing this forum - and learnt loads thanks guys - for many months but now need to spend plastic. My "benchmark" for a new machine would be either the Portamig 185 plus the extras of change over switch and spot timer or the SWP 170 (3 in 1) Mig welder from Weldequip but then whilst perusing eBay and ignoring the Chinese items I found Toolsave in Birmingham listing Fema FEMIG units at highly competitive specifications and prices, so much so that I would be foolish to ignore them in my decision making. The eBay listing numbers are these : 121014348144 and 360506466376
Not all the full info on these two or the company are shown by the lister so you need to go to the Fema web-site where, most importantly, it says they sell under a 3 year warranty but also show they have a Chinese partner. The main site, in English, is here :
http://www.fema-spa.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11&Itemid=4&lang=en
The pages in the PDF e-format catalogue are numbers 28 & 29 and 31.
The thing is the web, at least here in the UK, is barren of anything on this company and these products. Can one assume from their own blurb that they have been producers of those Italian re-branded machine that, for many users, have worked well in the past? Even if the parts are Chinese it's Fema that sell them and have to live with the warranty? Their range is, quite literally, staggering so have they in today's financial climate decided to sell what they made for others now under their own name?
It's the three years warranty I keep coming back to, if Toolsave are the official importer then you can't ignore that benefit.
Has anybody on this forum bought one, used one, know of one in fact what information can anyone pass on . . . at this price and spec I can only be early in the queue if they're genuine.
My thanks in anticipation.
