im intrested in buying a tig welder.
ive asked around about buying one and had suggestions of invertors and smaller rigs but i think im going to be looking at something closer to 200 amps for the stuff i would be welding at work.
thats the other thing, this welder would be for use at work, as the company dosent have one anymore (it died). i wish we did have one as tig is great fun but when i asked about it i was dissapointed to hear
"it would be nice to have one...but we dont desperatly need one".
perfectly understandable with times being tough but i want to gain tig experience!
alas the only way seems to be buying one or finding a new job (which is difficult given the current climate).
anyhow i found this:

im unsure if i should look at the 200 amp or this one. both are ac/dc which is what im also after and comes with a free foot pedal.
im curious as to what mm difference are we looking at between 160 amps and 200?
if 160 can handle 6mm gauge metal that would probably be fine.
my last question is is it worth it?
these things cost a few quid and im still weighing thigs up, as worst case scenario i buy one, take it to work and then it barely gets used. also i cant use it at home as i have nowhere to use it.
i really want to learn tig welding, partly because its enjoyable and more challenging than mig and because it seems to be in higher demand.
(off topic but thought i would mention)
i just finished my nvq2 for welding, glad to get a ticket but didnt really learn that much about welding if im honest
does anyone have any advice of what i could do next to get better/gain more experience?
thanks for any help guys
