Ball joint

hello chaps

bit of a long shot but l will ask anyway, l managed to crash my buggy last week :whistle:

l have sourced the steering rod ends and the shock absorber but cant find any ball joints that are the same or even similar, its a sort of cross between a track rod end and a ball joint, top one in the pic below

dont suppose any one has any idea's what else might use something similar ??

can you take it to your local motor factors as they might be able to match it up?

hi

l dont seem to have very helpful or knowledgeable motor factors by me, they all start with "whats the reg number" er there isent one, "cant help you then mate"

at this rate l will be making my own

sounds like the motor factors near me!!! fecking useless!! but if i looked for what i wanted i,d find it :whistle:

i know the feeling! Although most dealership parts dept staff have similar attitudes too!

Are there any markings/numbers on it that you could search on google with?

Looks similar to a peugeot style with the male threaded part. Is it meant to be bent between the ball joint and the threaded part?

Could you not just use rose joints and make your own shaft?

just been on an ebay browse all the pug ones l can find are bolt on
and yes l think that bend is intentional

good thinking there, never thought of that,
l was heading this way and modifying my A arms to allow these to bolt on

Have you tried Saber spares at the Maypole, the older guy in there is pretty knowledgable or the workshop/garage at Edgingtons on the Alcester road?

The top one has the type of attachment used on some small Renaults for the bottom wishbone/hub swivel. Except that they bolt onto the w/bone, not with a threaded end. R5, Clio, Twingo etc.

anti roll bar linkages wont be anywhere near as strong as the joint he needs not to mention they will be threaded both sides

seems to the way its turning out, most cars have bolt on balljoints, its trackrod ends that screw in, this one seems to be a crossbreed

these are really common and cheap, good thing being cheap unless my driving skills improve lol

l think perhaps l might end up making new suspension arms that these will bolt on to

hi yes plenty of pics, thats the trouble with trees, even little one are made of solid wood,

its a "china" buggy that has had a nissan micra engine fitted to make the sourcing of parts easier, just need to convert everything else to more common components

its an old nissan 8v 1000cc engine and box with a whopping 50 horse power :laughing:

plan is to upgrade to the latter 1300cc 16v engine with a cvt gearbox 90 hp and always in the right gear, :cool:

however l keep getting told a cvt gearbox is a fickle thing and wont take abuse so thats why we were doing scientific durability testing with a standard micra in the woods, we couldent break it or even catch it for that matter lol

Those are the bits, cept the pinch bolt system is like your original top pic.
Fun bit of kit from the pix. Guy I knew built a buggy from a Citroen CX unit (in the back) and a VW front end in a space frame. Complete nut, I saw him driving it on the main coast road in daylight. Used the high pressure hydraulics system in the VW front brakes..seemed to work OK..
