First things first a 6kva generator produces 4800w, basically KVA x 0.8 = KW (if i remember correctly). You have to remember that there is a surge when you begin welding so your generator must be able to cope with this. In reality you are looking at a gen similar to this size

Diywelding sells welder gensets, not sure if he can do a deal on a plain generator, or possibly weldequip might have his sources for cheap good quality gen units
