R-Tech mig

Has anyone had an R Tech MIG, I was looking at theirs on their site (just.dreaming - bought too many tools lately...) - is having an inverter on a MIG an advantage?

Looked through the manual, wire feed didn't seem to be a match for the Portamig units though.

All this after making some caterpillars yesterday with my old SIP Migmate, but then I was using pure argon...

No advantage at all if its a cheaply made Chinese set...........

I have got one of their TIG sets, I believe they're made in China but with R Tech's mods, it certainly is better featured than the WSE standard design units, and I'm loving welding with it. So I guess the question is, has anyone got or had one of these?

No not got one, but the BS I was told about them over the phone by someone at R Tech suggested steering well clear! But setting aside the BS sales nonsense, it might be worth trying one if you are ever in the market for a cheap MIG set.

Theres no point on buying a new welder if your not going to use the correct gas with it.

i've used one for quite abit of time and personaly i can't fault it. they also have a Lorch and a Murex and i can't really see the diference. The only thing that is better on the lorch is the thickness setting. But i can't comment on the durability of the machines because the Lorch and R-Tech ar only about 2 years old and the Murex is about 10-12 years old

Thanks Hitch - it's a good point but since my comment was split from a different thread - I'd only put my comment in since I'd just been tool-dreaming-surfing after disappointing results at striking the SIP up after many many years, I got confused thinking I'd run it best before on argo-shield, thinking argon would be fine and give lovely results.

How wrong I was!

So - I'm not in the market for a welder, liked the look of the R-Tech and merely wanted to know if being an inverter was any different/better/worse than the transformer, just a point of interest.

As said before though, I've got the AC 161 TIG machine (hence the handy bottle of argon) - and have only done bits and pieces so far (a TIG beginner) - but I don't think it's the machine that will be holding back my results!
