Saw this today as a possible birthday pressie from the missus..

Seemed very good value, what are your thoughts, Thay are supposed to be british made, not necessarily a good thing, but better than chinese.

Wolf Tools went in to receivership a while ago, so it will be left over unsold stock.

Your better of buying her a BIG BIG BUNCH OF FLOWERS and then asking (on hands and knees if required for) permission to save up for a trip to Machine Mart.........

the price looks rite for a belt drive compressor if anything goes on it after waranty. theres only 4 things to go wrong . pump motor pressure switch and one way valve the machine mart ones will all easily fit . ps dont ask the misus. JUST TELL HER

I have a similar spec (but not Wolf and a 160 Ltr Tank) compressor for general workshop/car repair work. My only reservation would be the 8Bar. The vendor says that most tool only work at less than 100psi (8 bar is around 120psi). True, but bear in mind that 8 bar will be the compressors maximum pressure. My compressor (and most of this type are similar) has a pressure switch that turns the pump on when tank drops to 7 Bar. Hence my tank is always between 7 and 10 bar. This means the Wolf compressor will either have a lower kick in point (probably around 6 Bar) or else the pump will be running a lot more. You will also need to consider how far you will be using the air from the compressor. When I'm working on my cars I have to use a 40ft hose and I tend to find that I get a significant pressure drop, around 2 bar, when I'm drawing a lot of air. When my tank pressure drops to 7 bar (just before the pump kicks back in, I tend to find I struggle to run heavy tools like an impact wrench, until the tank gets back up to 10 Bar. It all depends on what you are planning to run on the compressor.

It may be possible to tweak the unit to raise the maximum pressure to 10Bar; there is normally a factor of safety on the Tanks anyway, although you may need to put a higher rated pressure relief valve and adjust the pressure switch. Obviously doing this would invalidate any warranty and you would have to satify yourself that the tank and under pressure components could take the extra 2 bar.

Personally I would save up for a machine mart one, as said above.

Looks pretty good, but what is the F.A.D (Free Air Delivery) in CFM?

I just ordered a SIP 14 CFM displacement compressor, that has a 9.5 CFM F.A.D, from what I've read, general rule is you loose approx 35% between displacment and F.A.D, and TBH, F.A.D is what matters, because that's what the compressor can actually output to the tools being used.

i wouldnt recomend a direct drive comp . in the long run if anything goes wrong there not worth repairing . belt drive will be best but as u say its what u can aford which is the governing factor .its ok everyone telling u this is what u need but can it warant the price

I got the 06242, exact same specs as the 06244, except for a 50L tank instead of a 100L one. Larger tank means it will take a little longer for pressure to drop and pump to kick in again, but from reading around, the CFM it can flow is far more important than tank size.

My budget was £300 and got the 06242 for £270 + £8 delivery, and that was a little more than I originally planned, so couldn't justify the extra £80 (£350) for a larger tank when it wasn't going to make much of a difference, and just use up more space.

Looking at the Dakota its got them cheap restrictive regulators on it so you would have to add a better 1/2" water separator/reg as you need to do on your aldi one, seeing as you already have the aldi one you could couple them together when you need more air, but like L'Andy says you need more pressure really, the advert saying 'Rubbish' and dismissing it altogether is not quite true in practise.

If i replace any regulator with a 1/2" bsp regulator it will surely have to come back down to 1/4 for my 1/4" 10mm hoses, so will that will cancel out the advantage of the 1/2" reg?

Or am i getting this all wrong?

No you wont cancel out the advantage,when you use a 1/2" quick connector the air inlet to the connector is 1/2", then you connect your 1/4" rubber line to it, if that makes sense.

Right, i've done the mods and copied eli's.

Tried it and has made a huge difference, loads more power now,

Only problem was, i turned the compressor half way through it filling as it seemed to be taking longer than usual, adjusted the pressure on the reg, switched it back on again and it was running about a quarter of it's speed and seemed to be struggling.

drained the tank and switched it on again and it filled and cut off as normal, but without the 'hiss' of air at the end when it stops.

Anyway here's the pics.

Were you switching it off at the mains or on the top of the pressure switch?.

On top of the pressure switch mate.

Also i could really do with replacing the small copper pipe that goes to the pressure switch for something a bit longer as it's a bit stretched and mis-shapen, anyone know what size it is and where would i get something like that?

They are all malleable iron pipe fittings, most places have a supplier of such stuff, places like BSS.
