Default Spot and Stich Features

I am looking at buying a good quality second hand mig or maybe a portamig if I can save up enough mainly for car work with the occasional need for welding thicker stuff.

Some of the welders I have been looking at have spot and stitch features and was wondering if they useful or not worth bothering with.

Some years ago my welder had a spot timer but never used it as I found it easier and a lot stronger to punch a hole through the top piece of metal and plug weld it.

I am not sure what the difference is between a spot timer and a stitch timer so would be grateful for any information especially from anyone with a mig that has the features and if they are actually used.

Thanks.

Spot timer - press and hold the trigger and it will fire for the preset time then stop. Release the trigger and press again for the next spot.

Stitch timer - Press and hold the trigger and it will fire for the preset time then stop then fire then stop etc until you release the trigger. The idea is that you keep the torch moving forward and end up with evenly spaced and even sized stitches.
Tbh, I'll bet the majority of people who have the facilities on their machines never use them.
