I purchased a Warco GH1232VS in October and they are still trying to get it to work properly so that I can use it. I would not touch one again. In fact if it is not sorted in the next week or two I will be asking for my money back or an alternative. It has been a very disappointing experience. Everyone in my engineering club spoke very highly of them as a company and their products but three of us bought this model at the same time and we have all had the same problems. Thier good reputation is begining to fade!

The main problem first of all was that you could not turn the chuck by hand to set up a piece of work. It turned out that the brake was electrically operated and so normally on and only off when the power supply was on and drive engaged and the chuck rotating!!!! Also at this time it was found that the normal stop operated as an emergency stop i.e. rather than a controlled stop it was instant (not ideal if turning a large piece of work due to possibilities of the work leaving the chuck and/or the shock load to the lathe. This I was eventually informed was due to an incorrect connection in the circuitry. Once this was corrected I could move the chuck but still only with the power on but now not with a rotating chuck. I therefore questioned the type/quality of the electrical components as in my opinion they must be continously rated as they might be on all the time keeping the brake off, i.e. if working on the lathe all day, as the only way you could move the chuck was with the power on. Warco eventually confirmed that the components were continuosly rated. However I then had the problem that the emergency stop did not act as an emergency stop, This they are still trying to resolve. I do not know how many of these lathes they have sold but as delivered mine along with two others had all these faults so they could not be used as you would normally do.
