not really a project as such, more something im cobbling together to be a mate to the one we already have, made of whatever we could find lying round

the 89mm posts will have a selection of holes drilled in them, to put locking pins through (that'd be m12 bolts then :whistle:

) to support the 50mm posts

knew those magnetic clamps would come in useful some day :laughing:

note fine adjustment tool in the background

not too bad considering every time i touched bits of bar they fell off the clamps

all the bits cut, probably won't get back to it for a month now and won't be able to find half the stuff :laughing:

Sometimes better than drilling holes right through is to drill a hole in the outer tube, weld a nut on and use a bolt to secure the inner tube(with a piece of bar welded to the head as a handle) - gives an infinate number of height positions. We have a large roller stand made like this - even with heavy lumps of steel ontop, the top peice will not slide down!

fungus, it isn't for me its for work :laughing:

used to support upto 6m lengths of aluminium extrusions while getting put through the chop saw. would come in handy while making a space frame though :whistle:

The tube wall might be a bit thin to get a decent thread - a nut will give a better 'bite' for the bolt. It would soon strip the thread otherwise.

senceable post time What about welding a peice of bar to the bolt head so that to adjust you need a hammer to TAP loose?

origional thought wasnt to even have any sort of threaded action, just push the bolt through one side of the 89mm pipe and out the other! quite like the idea of having a threaded handle now though :laughing:

if it is threaded its totally adjustable which can be good and bad just make the bar poke out on one side then you can still get a spanner on if needed
