Default will someone put this myth to bed????

im always told i have druggie eyes the next day after welding, and sometime they do be bloodshod, but somehow a sneaky spark will always manage to get behind the googles when grinding, and i blame that. people tell me i should stop using the auto hood. all tho my eyes sometimes are bloodshod, my vision is perfect. how many professional welders or welders tat weld 9-5 on here use auto darkneing hoods? hood is a blue oerlikon, cost me 140 euro bad hood??

No probs with mine....

If i've done nothing but weld all day, i do get a bit red round the eyes though.

Which welding process? Ventilation? I'm thinking the bloodshot/druggie eyes could be from smoke/fume

Ocassionally get a little eye strain from lots of low amp pulsed arc welding but that's all. A day spent wearing my speedglas or a day in a fixed shade bucket, don't notice any difference tbh

I'm not that familiar with them but they're part of Air Liquide.

The IR/UV protection is passive with auto darkening filters i.e. you get full protection even with the mask switched off, usually rated to the equilivent of shade 14 for UV/IR.

Personally i think smoke/fume is more likely to be irritating your eyes but the easy test would be to switch to a fixed shade passive lens for a day and see if you notice an improvement

I have noticed that I tend not to blink as often as I should, especially on delicate or long welds .
It makes my eyes tired and sort of red.

Never noticed any problems, even after welding for long periods. Like the others say, likely that the iritation is coming from smoke or fume from the welding. Often you don't even realise you are rubbing your eyes. This could be causing the symptoms you report.

Maybe it's the drugs?

Man, that welding fume sends me. Groovy.
