hi there been busy making a cpl wood burners over last few weeks spent a cpl afternoons outside playing
first one is a heater with hot plate on the top for brews/stew
used 4"od pipe for the flue outlet and 2" black iron pipe for the air inlet
had some zinc plated back flap hinges lying around
used a flue from an old gas boiler lol aluminium though
here we go:-
bottle was empty and left out back for 2 days upside down valve fully open
first i filled the bottle with water to purge any gas left in it
marked 2 inch diameter hole for air intake
coaxed it to fit with a large hammer
marked 4" hole for rear exit flue
cut out using jigsaw broke 3 blades lol
marked out ashpan door and main door then cut out the ashpan with a 3.2mm cutting disk DOH!
both panels cut out must of measured wrong lol as my drill hole is nowhere near the cut line
bottle less the 2 doors valve removed using 2 m piece of 2" pipe block of wood in the hole in the side
rigged up a flue and pushed the cut panels back into place so i could burn the paint off left the plastic liner in the flue though DOH we live and learn
paint starting to smoke now left it till it bubbled later then wire brushed it off
used some old pallets to burn and creosote / sap started running out of the gaps lol
4" flue ground back to give a zinc free surface ready for welding up the fit was tight so i figured would leave it for later........
oops really should of welded that before the rain set in lol
shocking welding of the hinges had real trouble wind was blowing a hoolie in between showers plus i am somewhat unsure of my technique lol
however not structural and they aint gonna fall off now.
may grind them back a bit later lol
woohoo they open as they should i used the hinge as earth when welding
giving off loads of heat now.
because the flue is fitted to the back rather than the top like my incinerator it got real hot at the top of the bottle so figured it needs a hot plate...
this is the top plate minus the valve want to fix my hot plate to this........
a bit like this 8mm plate but not sure if my welder will do clarke 160tm with .6mm wire however not tried yet have asked the question in mig welding section
side view
and this is the finished article with a 90 degree angle and my aluminium flue looking worse for wear at moment
hope you like it lol
