hi just to let you all know my name is ashley and do around 80% of all the printed circuit board repairs for welding machines for distributors up and down the country . if i can help in any way please let me know

i repair thousands of different pcbs but as with a lot of things some machine electronics are totally unserviceable

Please don't make jokes like that - spattered coke on a PC monitor is not easy to clean off!!!

So, Alex is the perfect person to advise on the best and worst makes/models of welders (because of the repair rate).
Obviously caution is required, what with the potential of slander/libel etc.

A bit like asking the washing machine repair man 'which machines breakdown the least' and then buying one of them the next time yours goes pop.

Pic: Faulty PCB of Stud Welder

I recently got a welder from junk yard auction. The problem is that it's not charging. It has two capacitors 66000uF 110V attached to a SCR responsible for weld spark. The capacitor are being charged through thyristor. The control signal is sent via an LED located at the PCB. After many attempts, the PCB still has some problem thus not charging and sparking. Please help. I am attaching a picture.

Hi,

I had to laugh, when people found out I worked on the AA they always ask which is the best car. What they didn't know was that I worked on the wrecker, all I knew was which cars crumpled the best.

I think you should open a new thread, and describe your problem with a bit more details.
