Greetings to every one!
2 weeks ago, i began to look around on ebay for a decent mig welder, for ideally doing a few patches on the seat support area on my girlfriends car.
I did do quite a bit of reading up and observing ( Watching and asking questions at the garage i work at ) and reading info that is available on this very forum.
Anyway, after 2 weeks, i ended up purchasing a SIP Merlin 150 arc welder, for £62.00 & free postage. No problems with the machine, just needed a little oil on the amperage selector in the unit.
I've learnt that doing thin bodywork panels with an arc welder, isn't the best method unless you have the experience, so i've thrown myself into the deep end and purchased some unbranded 1.6mm mild steel rods and put a couple of 'blind' strings onto a piece of 1.2mm steel sheet.
The unclever bit is i was a little choosey on the correct face mask so i have the sticks, welder, gloves and a little piece of metal and inpatience got the better of me...so i lined up the rod and the moment of striking i looked away and listened/felt for the arc..... Well, heres my first attempts....
